As a left-back for Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and now <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/team/psg/2b3mar72yy8d6uvat1ka6tn3r" target="_blank">Paris Saint-Germain</a>, Hernandez has faced some of the best attackers in the world. The 27-year-old now shares a locker room with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/player/k-mbappe/5e9ilgrz3tzg9kd1gk3yvrahh" target="_blank">Mbappe</a>, and has identified the Frenchman as the toughest opponent he's ever faced.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Hernandez was tasked with dealing with Mbappe when Bayern Munich - his club at the time - met PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2021. The defender didn't fare too well, with Mbappe scoring twice as the French side won the first leg in Munich 3-2. As a youngster at Atletico, he came up against Ronaldo in the Madrid derby.

Hernandez told <a href="https://www.leparisien.fr/sports/football/psg/lucas-hernandez-raconte-sa-passion-pour-son-poste-un-grand-geste-defensif-ca-met-un-coup-dadrenaline-11-12-2023-L7EUE32YZFAXNF76VZWX2Q2HKY.php?xtor=AD-366" target="_blank">Le Parisien</a>: "If I have to bring out one, I would perhaps say Kylian. It’s never easy to defend against such fast players. When I was at Bayern, he hurt us in the Champions League in 2021. When I was at [Atletico] Madrid, I played derbies against Cristiano Ronaldo. What a player! He had everything."

WHAT HERNANDEZ SAID

Luckily for Hernandez, Mbappe is his teammate at PSG and the France national team. On Wednesday, PSG will look to secure a place in the Champions League last-16 by beating Borussia Dortmund.
