<p>The former Gunners midfielder joined David Jones and Jamie Carragher for punditry duty on <a href="https://x.com/SkySportsPL/status/1881487866775105944 " target="_blank"><em>Monday Night Football</em></a>, as Chelsea took on Wolves at Stamford Bridge. World Cup winner Petit was invited into the studio for that contest as he also boasts ties to the Blues.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>It was, however, when discussing his time with the Gunners under Arsene Wenger that Petit experienced an unfortunate slip of the tongue. While reflecting on some of <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/petit-reveals-henry-advice-arsenal-legend-didnt-like-and-cost-him-in-monaco-coaching-flop/rnbkjf5yi8j51qg0a5jjav7vp" target="_blank">his experiences at Highbury</a>, which saw him become a Premier League title winner, Petit said: “He had some fights with Pat Rice as well, rest in peace Pat.”</p>

WHAT EMMANUEL PETIT SAID

<p>Sky were quick to acknowledge that error, with MNF host Jones saying on air: “I’ve got some good news, Pat Rice sends his best. He’s not actually no longer with us. He’s alive and kicking.” Petit went on to say: “I’m sorry! Sorry Pat. I’m confused. I’m so sorry Pat. Pat, I made a mistake, sorry.”</p>

<p>Ex-Arsenal player and coach Rice is now 75 years of age. He made over 500 appearances for the north London giants in his playing days, before moving into youth development and eventually <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/wenger-very-hurt-at-how-things-have-ended-at-arsenal-claims-former-assistant-rice/uepg18smauqs1ud1nlrqi8ogs" target="_blank">becoming an assistant to Wenger.</a> He severed ties with the Gunners in 2012.</p>
