Colorado Rapids reportedly sign USMNT defender Reggie Cannon

<p>The Rapids hope to build on their impressive signing after signing another player with U.S. men's national team experience in Reggie Cannon, according to a report. </p><p>Cannon, 26, joins the squad on a free transfer after abruptly leaving QPR on Aug. 30. He is in an ongoing dispute with Boavista where FIFA has order the American to pay the Portuguese side <a href="https://sbisoccer.com/2024/08/reggie-cannon-leaves-qpr-by-mutual-consent#:~:text=Cannon's%20name%20was%20in%20the,month%2C%20transcribed%20by%20O%20Jogo." target="_self">$1.4 million</a> after unlawfully leaving the club due to unpaid wages. </p><p>The Rapids seemingly teased the signing on social media Tuesday night.  <strong>GOAL</strong> has reached out to the Rapids for comment. WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The Rapids, who sit fourth in the Western Conference, are tied for the third best attack in MLS with 53 goals. The hope would be that Cannon's arrival will boost the other side of the roster.</p><p>Colorado has conceded 45 goals this season, tied for fifth-worst in the Conference. That hasn't been helped by the departure of rising young Canadian star Moise Bombito, who joined OGC Nice over the summer. Cannon, who has 28 international caps, could be a potential upgrade either at right back or potentially serve as depth at the center back position.</p><p>Cannon joins five other players on the team who have at least one U.S. cap in Djordje Mihailovic, Sam Vines, Cole Bassett, Zack Steffen and Jonathan Lewis.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Cannon kicked off his professional career as a homegrown player for FC Dallas. He made 67 appearances for Dallas before earning a move to Portuguese top flight in 2020. </p><p>Cannon made his last USMNT appearance in 2022. </p>

DID YOU KNOW?

<p>Although the Rapids have teased the move, they have not officially announced it. The team returns to action on Sept. 14 when it hosts Portland. It remains to be seen if Cannon will be ready to make the squad for that matchup. </p>
