Chelsea open talks to sign USMNT defender Caleb Wiley from MLS side Atlanta United

Per <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5603496/2024/06/29/chelsea-caleb-wiley-transfer-atlanta/" target="_blank">The Athletic</a>, Chelsea have opened talks with Atlanta over a deal to sign Wiley and negotiations are moving towards completion. He has played 81 times for the MLS club and has been capped twice by the USMNT.

WHAT HAPPENED?

It is unclear if the 19-year-old would be a signing for the first-team as the report claims he could potentially be loaned to Strasbourg, who share an owner with the Blues. The teenager has a contract with Atlanta until 2025.

Chelsea have been at pains to bring in young players this summer and have already signed <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-complete-gbp19m-deal-to-sign-youngster-omari-kellyman-from-aston-villa/bltefaa6ffeb3e35b8c" target="_blank">Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa</a>. They have also been linked with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/chelsea-decision-future-incoming-signing-marc-guiu-transfer-barcelona/bltf094a0f6ae2597c6" target="_blank">Barcelona striker Marc Guiu</a>, who is just 18.
