The supporter was spotted aiming the salute at Spurs fans during the London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2023. A football banning order (FBO) is a civil order. The order means that the fan will not be able to attend football matches for a set period. The orders can vary in length from two to 10 years, depending on the severity of the offence.

The Chelsea supporter's conviction comes on the same day that an <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/everton-fan-racist-abuse-liverpool-mohamed-salah-an-idiot-three-year-stadium-ban/blt78aeb000cacf32e8" target="_blank">Everton fan was fined and given a stadium ban for racial abuse aimed at Mohamed Salah</a> and for mocking fans over the Heysel Stadium disaster.
