Chelsea to make big decision on future of incoming signing Marc Guiu - even before completing transfer from Barcelona

Chelsea reached an agreement to sign the Barcelona forward earlier this week in a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-cm/lists/chelsea-sign-marc-guiu-barcelona-wonderkid-5m-transfer/blte3cb7662d589eeb8" target="_blank">£5 million ($6m) deal</a>. Ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge, Spanish publication <a href="https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/destino-final-marc-guiu-espana-104467917" target="_blank">Sport</a> claims the Blues are unsure whether to keep him in their first-team squad next season or loan him out to further his development.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The report adds one option is to loan him to a side that will guarantee him more first-team minutes than at Chelsea, with Sevilla a possible destination for the 18-year-old. With the Blues in the market for a big-money striker signing, getting game time elsewhere may be a shrewd move for the Spaniard.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Barcelona academy product made his first-team debut this season and went onto score two goals in seven games in all competitions. Barca youth coach Ivan Carrasco described the 6ft 2in teenager as a classic number nine and someone who exploits his "physical power".

DID YOU KNOW?

Guiu, who has represented Spain at under-19 level, is expected to join Chelsea in the coming days. It remains to be seen if he will head out on loan or stay with Enzo Maresca's side for the 2024-25 campaign.
