WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>“Chilwell is thinking he’s going to leave, it’s better to avoid using him to avoid injury,” Maresca told reporters.</p><p>“Cesare will not be in the squad, same situation as Chilwell. It’s best in this moment not to allow him to play in case there’s opportunity for him to leave.”</p>

WHAT MARESCA SAID

<p>While Maresca is focused on squad rotation, Chelsea continue to grapple with injury setbacks in defence. Wesley Fofana’s hamstring issue is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season, while Benoit Badiashile, another key defensive option, is also unavailable until February due to injury. However, the Blues have received some positive news, with Reece James and Romeo Lavia fit and potentially set to feature against Morecambe.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Reports have surfaced linking Chilwell with a move to West Ham. Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who was recently appointed as West Ham’s head coach, is reportedly eager to bring the left-back to the London Stadium. Potter’s interest could provide an escape route for the left-back, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under Maresca.</p>
