<p>Szczesny hung up his gloves in the summer <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-needed-special-dispensation-sign-wojciech-szczesny-long-term-marc-andre-ter-stegen-injury/blt381e5a6493ad503c" target="_blank">but has been lured out of retirement</a> and will spend the rest of the 2024-25 season with Barcelona. WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The Blaugrana dealt with a major injury blow last month during their La Liga fixture against Villarreal. While they comfortably thrashed the Yellow Submarines 5-1, captain and goalkeeper Ter Stegen was stretchered off the pitch in tears. Medical reports later confirmed that the Germany international had a complete <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/worst-case-scenario-marc-andre-ter-stegen-barcelona-ruptured-knee-tendon-requires-surgery/blt8ae5b6c3db6a7a62" target="_blank">rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee</a>.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/4138532/fc-barcelona-sign-wojciech-szczesny#" target="_blank">official statement</a> from Barcelona read, "FC Barcelona and Wojciech Szczęsny have reached an agreement for the goalkeeper to join the Club until 30 June."</p>

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

<p>Hansi Flick's got back to winning ways with a thumping 5-0 victory over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday. They will next face Alaves on Sunday in La Liga, with Szczesny now set to rival Inaki Pena for a starting spot in the team.</p>
