<p>Atlanta United are reportedly on the verge of completing the transfer of Miguel Almirón, bringing the Paraguayan star back to the club six years after his departure. <em>The Five Stripes</em> have agreed on a fee with Premier League side Newcastle United, with only personal terms between Atlanta and Almirón remaining -- a detail not expected to pose any issues, according to the report.</p><p>The <a href="https://x.com/LukeEdwardsTele/status/1882904202764226938" target="_self">Telegraph</a> reported the agreement between Newcastle and Atlanta United, while <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/atlanta-united-newcastle-miguel-almiron-paraguayan-club-mls/blt573e340b4c9a4ee9" target="_self">GiveMeSport </a>broke the news about talks between the clubs.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Almiron played for Atlanta from 2017-2019, winning MLS Cup with the Eastern Conference side in 2018, while establishing himself as one of the league's best players during that span. He was a league MVP finalist in 2018 and was named MLS Best XI in both campaigns. In 2019, he was sold to Newcastle for a then-league-record fee of $25.6 million (£21M).</p><p>Earlier this offseason, fellow MLS Eastern Conference side <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/sources-charlotte-fc-newcastle-miguel-almiron-mls-premier-league/blta82c99bd9f0b3fdd" target="_self">Charlotte FC had initially held talks with Almiron's</a> camp over a transfer, but they eventually left the bargaining table and turned their sights to Ivory Coast star Wilfried Zaha, who <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/ainside-charlotte-fc-s-signing-of-wilfried-zaha/blt085b6ccf5f9ca94a" target="_self">signed with the club last week.</a></p>
