<p><em></em><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6491250/2025/07/22/arsenal-viktor-gyokeres-transfer-latest/" target="_blank"><em>The Athletic</em></a> were first to claim that a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/arsenal-final-steps-completing-transfer-sporting-viktor-gyokeres-fails-report-pre-season/bltb73fc5475bf61064" target="_blank">deal worth £54.8m (€63.1m/$74.2m) plus £8.6m (€9.9m/$11.7m)</a> in add-ons had been struck in principle between Arsenal and Sporting but issues remained over the nature and achievability of Gyokeres' contingency bonuses. This was later followed by <a href="https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1947654792899379560" target="_blank">Fabrizio Romano</a> claiming a verbal agreement was in place.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Arsenal have been on the lookout for a new number nine for a long time, and it seems that search may finally be over with the acquisition of Gyokeres. But it hasn't been easy as the transfer has been at <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/arsenal-setback-sporting-viktor-gyokeres-negotiations/blta54ec79f7fc79996" target="_blank">risk of falling through,</a> the Swede reportedly <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/viktor-gyokeres-awol-sporting-striker-pre-season-training-arsenal-transfer-nears/bltd9c67c4f8b964ffd">refused to turn up to pre-season</a> and even allegedly <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/viktor-gyokeres-strike-striker-snub-pre-season-force-transfer-arsenal-sporting-cp/blt77b831405c48e914">threatened to go on strike</a>&nbsp;as club president Frederico Varandas warned of sanctioning the 27-year-old. But after all that, he is now set to join the Gunners.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Former Coventry City striker Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals in 52 matches last season for the Portuguese giants, is reportedly set to sign a deal with Arsenal until 2030. To help get a deal done, the ex-Brighton man's agent is said to have waived his commission. </p>
