<p>According to <a href="https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/giro-total-futuro-jong-flick-114074500" target="_blank">Sport</a>, manager Flick hopes Barcelona will convince the midfielder to extend his contract which expires in the summer of 2026. The report adds Barca offered the Dutchman, who has repeatedly been linked with a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/transfer-deja-vu-man-utd-enquire-cut-price-deal-frenkie-de-jong-reignite-interest-barcelona-midfielder/bltd53024df235bccf4" target="_blank">Manchester United move</a>, a new deal last year but that came to nothing. </p>

<p>Sport adds that Flick sees De Jong as an important player at Barcelona and he could replace Marc Casado in the lineup soon. The report adds the main problem in the negotiations is the salary, particularly with the Blaugrana being <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-risk-financial-meltdown-despite-kit-deal-nike/bltece087da81d72526" target="_blank">mired in financial struggles</a>.  </p>

<p>The report states that if a contract agreement is not finalised this summer, De Jong will be put up for sale.
